First Day

Posted by Nicole -- January 17, 2008 4:35 PM

Since tomorrow is my last, first day of college, I think I should commemorate it. I probably won’t celebrate it by wearing new clothes and awkwardly posing for pictures with my new backpack but by stopping to think about all that I have been through in the past three and one half years.

Freshman year I made friendships that will last a lifetime, went to my first Razorback game as a student, learned what it was really like to be on my own, and found out that being involved on campus and in the community is the magic potion to treat homesickness.

Sophomore year I shared a room with more roommates than I ever imagined I would and, more importantly, had a great time doing it. I also took a great spring break road trip, made it through organic chemistry, and moved into a place of my own.

Junior year I spent all year studying for the MCAT, and it paid off.  I kept a great living situation going with a wonderful roommate, and I learned more about the functioning of the kidney than most other people will ever imagine-thanks to an amazing professor. I was also able to study abroad in London, Amsterdam, and Geneva. I learned from people who are experts in the English National Health Service, in hospice care, and who work for the United Nations.

Now with senior year half over, I have applied for medical school, interviewed for weeks, and applied for graduation. The friends I have made I know I can rely on through thick and thin. The memories of even the boring nights will allow me to regale my children someday. More than those things, I have gained an education that will serve me well. I have met many people in my adventures, and I have always told them my university with pride. I have also been able to compare my knowledge with their knowledge, and I match up well no matter if they were public or private scholars. The University of Arkansas has been wonderful to me thus far; hopefully my last semester will go just as well.

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Posted by Shahala -- November 30, 2007 5:38 PM

Well folks, its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. And what a great time of year that is for so many of us. The UofA looks amazing covered in snow, but what I find truly amazing is how much we love to give back to the surrounding community.

I know that many of the sororites and fraternites on campus give back this time of year, but so do many of the RSO on campus. Our very own RSO- the Student Ambassadors have adopted two three year children from a local Kids First Program for Christmas and are already collecting gifts and clothes for them. The Office of Admissions is also adopting a family for Christmas as well as competing in a Silas Hunt Hall buliding canned food drive for local food banks.

Its so important to give back when you can. And I’m proud to be part of an organization and university that is so willing to help those in need.

Happy Fall!

Old Main

Happy Fall to all of you!

This time of year can be so busy for families. First you have Halloween Trick-or-Treating, then comes Thanksgiving followed by the Christmas Holiday season and then before you know it, it’s a whole New Year! And even though it’s a busy time, I hope you’ve begun to look at colleges you are interested in attending and are making plans to visit them.

Let me just say, if you haven’t seen the UofA in the fall– you haven’t seen the UofA. Nothing can compare to our campus in the fall, the changing leaves and weather can’t be beat.

You can schedule a visit now if you haven’t already. Just go to visit.uark.edu and come see what we have to offer!

Homecoming 2007

Posted by Nicole -- October 29, 2007 7:05 PM

Well kids, the Queen has been crowned, the Yard Decorations have been taken down, and the Stadium is now empty, but Homecoming 2007 was wonderful. The weather was beautiful, and the Razorbacks won. what more could one ask for? Not too much I say. Your friendly, neighborhood Student Ambassadors, I am rather proud to say, won first place in the Homecoming competition with all other Registered Student Organizations.

Homecoming is a great time together with all of my family who have graduated from this University, to find each name on Senior Walk, tailgate, and reminisce about all the good times they had here and the good times I am having here.

Now that all of the craziness of the past week is over it is time again to hit the books and to begin studying for the second round of exams. This means hours spent at the library and at the NEW Starbucks on campus. Hmmm should I order a chai latte or a Berryblossom tea first??

Last but not least, Halloween is this week! This means costumes on campus and random fraternity pledge class stunts with the poor fellows wearing large and outstanding costumes to their classes. I think I am going to be an Emo Kid!

Fall!

Posted by Jaime -- October 24, 2007 5:28 PM

Lately I’ve been feeling pretty overwhelmed. It seems as if a moment to breathe isn’t even available to me. I’m sure most people on this campus know what that feels like. As chaotic as things are, though, something amazing has happened over the past couple of weeks. Fall has taken over! I wholeheartedly believe that this is the best campus in the world to be on during the fall season. I have never seen such gorgeous shades of orange, red, and gold. Yesterday I was walking across Old Main Lawn, and even though I was stressed about everything I had to do, I felt an inner sense of calm because everything around me was so pretty. So, when you’re stressed out, just take a moment to enjoy the scenery around you. It’s bound to be the best part of your day.
